Lily Bulb (Lilium Brownii) | Premium Raw Herb
Lily Bulb (Lilium Brownii- Bai he) is derived from from the Hong Kong (or Brown’s) lily—Lilium brownii, a species of lily native to parts of China, Hong Kong, and other parts of Southeast Asia. They are sweet and often consumed as food in the summer (as they are moistening and refreshing) and can be eaten fresh, cooked into porridge or congee, cooked in sugar water (as a treat), or ground into flour for other cooking purposes.
In Chinese medicine, Bai he is used address chronic dry cough with shortness of breath, and scanty, difficult to expectorate sputum (that may be streaked with blood)– see the formula Bai He Gu JIn Tang. It is also calming to the spirit and is used to treat a chronically deficient, dessicated stomach– truly a gentle herb for those who need gentle remediation (this is its specialty).
Incorporating lily bulb into your diet may help address:
- asthma, wheezing, and shortness of breath
- chronic, weak (consumptive) cough
- heart palpitations, insomnia, and low-grade anxiety
- atrophic gastritis/chronic stomach pain
