What Is Plum Flower – Lycii Chrysanthemum Teapills (Qi Ju Di Huang Wan)?
Plum Flower – Lycii Chrysanthemum Teapills is a classical Chinese Herbal Medicine formula that is used to “brighten the eyes” in cases where there are such symptoms as: blurred vision, diminished visual acuity, poor night vision, pressure behind the eyes, and dry eyes. Clinically, this formula can help to address such conditions as glaucoma, photophobia, cataracts, retinal detachment, and optic neuritis*.
This formula is a variation on the classical TCM Formula 6 Flavor Rehmannia (Liu Wei Di Huang Wan), which has been used in China for many centuries as the base formula to tonify deficiency of Kidney yin (broadly speaking, think adrenal fatigue, lower back pain/soreness, and night sweats). Lycii fruit (Gou Qi Zi) and chrysanthemum flowers (Ju Hua) are then added to specifically address eye problems that have yin deficiency as their root cause.
Proper pattern differentiation is important in order to get positive results. This formula will not work well to resolve eye problems that occur because of underlying heat in the channels (i.e. for red, itchy, irritated, dry eyes).
