Plum Flower – Zhi Gan Cao Teapills, or Zhi Gan Cao Wan is the principal Chinese Herbal Medicine formula for addressing irregular pulse and heart palpitations that have deficiency of qi and blood as the root cause. It is also commonly used as a general heart-health tonic for the elderly, and is applicable when many of the following symptoms are present:

  • Palpitations, which may be accompanied by anxiety,
  • irregular heartbeat,
  • irritability,
  • agitation,
  • insomnia with difficulty falling asleep or dream-disturbed sleep,
  • forgetfulness,
  • poor memory,
  • poor concentration,
  • weakness,
  • fatigue,
  • night sweats or spontaneous sweating,
  • dry throat and mouth,
  • tendency to constipation with dry stools,
  • generalized dryness,
  • numbness and tingling in the limbs.

Symptoms may be exacerbated in the evening, when fatigued or with exertion.
