Fu Ling Pi Tang (Poria Cortex Liquid Tincture):

Fu Ling Pi Tang (Poria Cortex Liquid Tincture) is extracted from dried slices of the poria fungus, a kind of mushroom/fungus that grows underneath the soil (usually at the base of pine trees) in a compact, concentrated mass of mycelium where its nutrients (and other constituents) are stored.

Fu Ling has two main actions:

  • It drains dampness from the Stomach and Large Intestines and promotes urination. In this regard it addresses water retention of various presentations (e.g. edema, dysuria, and other clinical manifestations of excess water retention/dampness); and
  • It helps to stimulate sluggish digestion.

This herb is used very widely in Chinese Medicine in dozens and dozens of different formulas for its dual capability to both stimulate sluggish digestion and simultaneously remove the excess dampness that is a prime cause of the sluggish digestion in the first place!

A few examples of formulas containing Fu Ling include:

These are four of the best-known formulas in Chinese Medicine. They all do very different things, and they all use the herb Fu Ling to help them do it– a truly versatile herb indeed!!!!
