Gut Health and Chinese Medicine – How To Improve Your Gut Health Naturally
Welcome to Best Chinese Medicines. Let’s talk about the gut now in Chinese medicine. The gut is at the core of all health and wellness. The stomach, spleen, pancreas, intestines are all really important in creating Qi.
Qi is our energy. It’s our life force. It’s what gets us moving. You can kind of think of qi as ATP if you’re scientifically minded, or as piranha if you’re into yoga or that kind of thing, but really what’s happening is that our gut takes in food, air and other nutrients and synthesizes this into a usable form of energy.
Now, without good quality energy none of the rest of our organ systems or our nervous system or anything like that can function properly. With poor Qi we’ve got bad mental health, poor physical health, and eventually we’ll get sick. So having a good digestive system and a healthy gut is at the root of all wellness.
Now, in biomedicine we’re learning how important the gut is as well we’re finding out that there are trillions of bacteria in the gut that make up our microbiome. This microbiome protects us from disease actually interferes with our emotional responses to stress and our environment and has a lot to do with our general and overall wellness.
To really improve your gut health we need to take a multi-pronged approach. We want to change diet, lifestyle, and add in some supplementation to help restore a good environment in the gut.
The first key is to change your diet – you want to eliminate all kinds of toxic things like junk food, processed food, chemical additives, kind of fake foods and other things that you wouldn’t necessarily see growing from the earth.
Another thing to do is to add in probiotics. These are really going to supercharge your good bacteria and help to diminish the bad bacteria. Reduce things like sugar and alcohol and try to fill up on things like fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and yummy probiotic food like yogurt, miso, kimchi, and things like that.
Now, lifestyle-wise we want to add in meditation. We want to reduce stress and you want to exercise similar things to maintaining a healthy lifestyle anyway, but it really does impact the gut.
Now, with supplementation we get to the Chinese herbal section. So Chinese herbs help to restore the balance and health of the gut itself. There are several formulas listed on the blog below that you can check out and see which one fits your specific constitution and your needs, but the core of all of them is that they’re helping you reach balance in your gut and in your overall body.
So check out the blog read up on gut health and good luck.
