Absolute Hibiscus Tea (certified organic) is a tart and tasty treat that will help the body revive from being in the summer heat.
Read moreHibiscus, thought to have originated in tropical climes of Africa, was brought to the New World by African slaves in the 17th century and quickly became a common source of food & drink in Mexico, Central, and South America. It was (and still is) most commonly made into a tart, thirst quenching tea… In Mexico, they add lots of cane sugar, orange slices, and ice to make a traditional concoction called Agua de Jamaica (or sorrel in the Caribbean Islands).
Medicinally speaking, hibiscus herb is used to quench thirst by replenishing body fluids depleted by overexertion/overheating in the sun (“summer heat” in TCM language) and will also help soothe a mildly sore throat. Modern research also suggests that hibiscus can help to manage mild high blood pressure and cholesterol/LDL levels because of (1) the presence of antioxidants and; (2) its action to inhibit angiotensin-converting enzme (ACE).
Hibiscus tea is chock full of vitamin C and antioxidant compounds, making it a healthy way to cool down in the summer heat.
