Dried Ginger – (Gan Jiang) is a very, very heating herb used in Chinese medicine to warm the core of the body when there are significant digestive difficulties: abdominal coldness and pain (relieved with application of heat), incomplete digestion, watery diarrhea (w/undigested food bits), nausea, and vomiting– so not your run of the mill sluggish digestion and periodic bloat but rather much deeper, chronic difficulties. It is also added to formulas to help when a cold, phlegmy cough has settled into the lungs (n.b. use only when the phlegm is clear or white).
Use in small amounts w/other herbs (for balance) to potentially address:
This is an herb to be used carefully and in low doses and is not recommended for ingestion during pregnancy.

Simmer approximately 15 grams of the raw root per pint of water for 20-60 minutes. Do not let the water come to hard boil (this will destroy many of the constituents you want in the decoction). Discard the leftover plant material. This will leave you with a spicy broth of which you can add to a recipe for someone needing this level of internal heating to address their digestive problems
Often you will be adding only a few grams of the dried herb to a pot that is simmering with other herbs for digestion (or Lung support).
3-10g in decoction.
