Huang Lian Su Wan (Coptis Extract) – by Lao Wei
Huang Lian Su Wan (or Coptis/Goldthread) a potent Chinese herb which clears heat and toxins from the body (most notably from the middleย jiao, which refers to the chest cavity and abdominal regions) and used singly is excellent for addressing the occasional spell of diarrhea, indigestion, or food poisoning. This single herb can also be used as an adjunct to other herbal supplement regimens to assist the body in clearing out heat-toxins (i.e. both viral and systemic infections); furthermore, in the practice of TCM it is often used in formula to address liver disorders such as jaundice and hepatitis.
Recent studies by the U.S. National Institutes of Health also show that the major active component of coptis extract lowers blood glucose, improves insulin sensitivity, increases insulin secretion, and exhibits other anti-diabetes effects via its action of regulating gut microbiota.
