Plum Flower – Peony and Licorice Teapills – Shao Yao Gan Cao Wan

Plum Flower – Peony and Licorice Teapills (Shao Yao Gan Cao Wan) is a Chinese Herbal Medicine formula that moves qi and blood in the Liver and Gallbladder channels (so: elements of Liver qi stagnation pattern). It is used to address a variety of pain presentations, to include:

  • Chronic spasms and cramping of the calf and leg muscles**
  • Abdominal cramping
  • Painful menstruation

** Ed. note: For myself I also use a good-quality magnesuim supplement when my calves cramp up (periodically)… just remember not to overdo it because too much magnesium will cause soft stools –> loose stools.
