What is Plum Flower – Universal Benefit Teapills (Pu Ji Xiao Du Wan):
Plum Flower – Universal Benefit Teapills (Pu Ji Xiao Du Yin) is a classical Chinese Medicine formula originally created in the 13th century to deal with serious epidemic outbreaks (e.g. diseases like what we now call diptheria). It has both antiviral and antibacterial effects and in modern times it is indicated for use with acute cold or flu that presents with severe sore throat with swollen glands and fever, headache, aching neck and shoulders, chills, and thirst. It is a useful choice for addressing strept throat as well as pediatric conditions such as tonsillitis, chicken pox, measles, mumps, and ear infections.
In terms of TCM theory, it clears heat, resolves toxins, dispels pathenogenic wind, cools the blood, and moistens the throat. It should also be noted that this is a short-term use formula (really no more than one week)– as soon as heat signs diminish, it should be replaced with a milder formula. This is in part because the formula is bitter and cold in its nature and can easily upset the stomach (causing epigastric pain/discomfort) and cause loose stools, and also because fevers/infections lasting more than a few days may very well need the intervention of a physician and the use of Western drugs.
Take 8 teapills, 3x/day (or as directed by your healthcare practitioner).
Short-term use formula (see product description).
