Hong Teng clears heat-toxins and invigorates blood to relieve pain. It is commonly used to treat intestinal abscesses that come from excess heat and the stagnation of qi and blood.

Hong Teng invigorates blood to dispel stasis and relieve pain is used in this regard to treat pain and swelling due to blood stagnation from traumatic injuries; it also treats menstrual pain rooted in blood stagnation.
