An Mian Tang (Peaceful Sleep) is a liquid tincture that clears heat and calms the Spirit to promote restful sleep.
Read moreAn Mian Tang (liquid tincture) is a popular sleep aid that works by replenishing reserves of the cooling, nourishing fluids of the body (yin) that have been depleted over time, whether from the non-stop pace required necessitated by modern life, stress, anxiety, or the natural progression of aging.
The chief herb is Suan zao ren (the seed of the jujube date), which is widely known for its ability to “calm Shen“– that is, bring peace to the Spirit, calm anxiety, and promote restful and even sleep. Other herbs in the formula also gently help stimulate digestion and clear heat (two actions which promote restful sleep in the larger picture). A favorite go-to sleep formula for this house herbalist (along with An Shui (see related products below for that link))!
This formula need to be taken regularly for at least one month to really know if’s working for a particular person’s pattern of imbalances.

An Mian Tang, which translates to ‘Peaceful Sleep Decoction’ in Traditional Chinese Medicine, is primarily used to calm the mind, nourish the Heart, and promote restful sleep. It is traditionally indicated for patterns of Heart and Liver disharmony that manifest as insomnia, restlessness, irritability, and difficulty falling or staying asleep. TCM practitioners often recommend it for individuals experiencing stress-related sleep disturbances accompanied by palpitations or a racing mind.
As a liquid extract tincture, An Mian Tang is typically administered using the dropper included with the bottle, added to a small amount of warm water before taking. Dosage instructions vary by brand and individual constitution, so it is important to follow the label directions or consult a licensed TCM practitioner or qualified healthcare provider for personalized guidance. Taking the tincture approximately 30 to 60 minutes before bedtime is a common practice to support its calming and sleep-promoting effects.
In Chinese, ‘An Mian’ (安眠) literally means ‘peaceful sleep’ or ‘tranquil slumber,’ reflecting the formula’s core purpose of calming the spirit (Shen) and easing the mind. An Mian Tang traditionally features herbs such as Suan Zao Ren (Ziziphus spinosa seed), He Huan Pi (Albizzia bark), and Ye Jiao Teng (Polygonum vine), which together nourish Heart Blood, anchor the spirit, and reduce restlessness. Supporting herbs may include Fu Shen (Poria with wood) and Wu Wei Zi (Schisandra berry) to further calm the nervous system and tonify Heart Qi.

This really helped me sleep and I’ve tried everything in order to prevent having to take a prescription. So far so good, and I’ve used everything- Melatonin of all kinds (time release, gummies). I’ve also tried bar tinctures, but this is the best remedy I have found to date.
