Codonopsis root (Dang Shen) is a qi-boosting herb that is widely used in Chinese Medicine as a less expensive alternative to (Korean) ginseng root (Ren shen). It is great herb to add to your diet to boost overall health and vitality, or to rebuild a weakened constitution… and being neutral – mildly warming in temperature, it is much easier on the body taken long term (as opposed to Korean ginseng which is quite warming and not really meant to ingest regularly).
In the practice of Chinese Medicine, codonopsis root is most often used in formula to help with weak/sluggish digestion when there are symptoms like abdominal bloating, weakness, fatigue, and loose, watery stools. It is also added to formulas to boost Lung qi, which means that it can be a helpful ally for a generally weakened respiratory system… good for:

Simmer approximately 15 grams of the raw root per pint of water for 20-60 minutes. Do not let the water come to hard boil (this will destroy many of the constituents you want in the decoction). Discard the leftover plant material and drink the remaining liquid. This will keep for approximately 48 hours in the fridge before losing its medicinal efficacy.
6-10g in decoction, max. 30g
