“Ju He” (橘核) refers to tangerine seed, which is the principal herb in this formula and gives it its name. In TCM, Ju He is classified as a Qi-regulating herb with a bitter, neutral nature that specifically enters the Liver channel to disperse clumping, move Qi, and alleviate pain in the lower abdomen and genital region. The formula builds on this chief herb by combining it with other herbs such as Hai Zao (seaweed), Kun Bu (kelp), and Yan Hu Suo (corydalis) to strengthen its ability to resolve accumulation, soften hardness, and relieve pain.
