Niu Bang Zi (Burdock Seed) Liquid Tincture:

Burdock Seed Liquid Tincture is a decoction of the fruit of the burdock plant (Arctium lappa). This herb has a long tradition of use in both Chinese and Western Herbalism to address various skin conditions (such as measles or eczema) that are characterized by heat signs (think here red, warm to the touch, and perhaps painful and itchy as well). It does so by venting the rash (i.e. “pushing” it out of the body through the skin), helping purify the blood, and helping he liver perform its detox functions.

In the practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine, this herb is primarily used to disperse wind heat, relieve toxicity, and vent rashes. What this means in practical terms is that one would use Burdock seed when they feel the first signs of a cold coming on symptoms such as headache, fever, and especially sore throat (as in the formula Yin Qiao). This herb would also potentially help with other heat rashes that are not the result of a cold or flu, such as those from eczema, psoriasis, and other skin flare-ups of unknown origin.

Note that one action of this herb is to moisten the intestines, so its use (or overuse) can cause loose stools.
