What is Plum Flower – Mu Xiang Shun Qi Teapills:

Plum Flower – Mu Xiang Shun Qi Teapills is a classical Chinese Medicine formula (c. 18th century) that addresses chronic digestive complaints due to Spleen yang deficiency with the accumulation of dampness in the middle. Symptoms that indicate the appropriate use of this formula include indigestion, abdominal distention, poor appetite, borborygmus (stomach gurgling), loose stools (watery), and sensitivity to cold and/or raw food (i.e. cold/raw food triggers or exacerbates the other symptoms).

Clinical notes: Mu Xiang Shun Qi Tang was originally formulated to address indigestion due to Liver qi stagnation and therefore may be appropriate for a more complex pattern that includes symptoms of Liver qi stagnation; for indigestion etc… due to Spleen yang deficiency w/food stagnation, see the formula Xiang Sha Yang Wei Tang; and a more “straightforward” formula appropriate for indigestion etc… due to Spleen yang deficiency (that does not address Liver qi stagnation or food stagnation) is Shen Ling Bai Zhu Tang.
