What is Bu Zhong Yi Qi Wan — Ci Brand:

Bu Zhong Yi Qi Wan (Ci Brand) is a Chinese Herbal Medicine formula that helps promote and maintain a healthy digestive system. It works to boost one’s Qi or energy to help you digest better. It’s indicated for poor digestion with symptoms of:

  • Tendency to need to have a bowel movement (or diarrhea) right after eating
  • Intolerance of cold foods, salads, and/or drinks
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Abdominal distension
  • Bloating with pain and gas
  • General weakness
  • Feeling of coldness
  • Chronic diarrhea
  • Chronic loose stools

Clinical Notes: This formula is a spleen qi tonic with the addition of  Chai Hu and Sheng Ma, two herbs with upward energy that make this formula especially useful for addressing organ prolapses. Bu Zhong Yi Qi Wan can also be thought of as a way to treat Liver attacking Spleen (i.e. tonifying the Spleen to address the relative imbalance between the two organ systems) and has found modern clinical applications for addressing various digestive complaints associated with this pattern).
