What is Dendrobium (Shi Hu)

Dendrobium, or Shi Hu is a member of the orchid (Orchidaceae) family and has been used in Chinese Herbal Medicine for many centuries to treat thirst, fever, diabetes, infection, inflammation, cancer, protect eyesight, and improve appetite and digestion. Dendrobium is now an ingredient in some pre-workout dietary supplements marketed to enhance physical or athletic performance. Dendrobium also has pharmacologic effects that include analgesic (pain-killing) and anti-fever effects.

Dosage Instructions for Dendrobium Stem (Shi Hu)

  • Shake Well before each use.
  • Maintenance Serving: Dissolve 1-2 droppers (1/2 tsp.) in warm water or juice 2-3 times daily.
  • Augmented Serving: Take 1 full tsp. 2 to 3 times daily in warm water or juice or as directed by a qualified herbalist familiar with the use of Chinese herbs and formulas.
  • To evaporate alcohol place in hot water.
