Ban Tu Wan (Alopecia Areata Pill) is a Chinese patent medicine formula that addresses various manifestations of hair loss:

  • alopecia areata (bald patches on the scalp (or other parts of the body) that may grow into bald spots)
  • loss of body hair
  • post-partum hair loss
  • hair loss due to chemo

The chief herb in this formula if He Shou Wu (Fo-ti root) which is well known for its use in combating hair loss. Additionally, this formula makes use or a number of tonic herbs which help to strengthen the Liver and Kidney organ systems (which, in Traditional Chinese Medicine ( TCM ) theory are responsible for hair growth and loss).

Secondary symptoms pointing toward the use of this formula include dizziness, insomnia, fatigue, soreness in the muscles and limbs, poor concentration (due to blood deficiency)
