He Shou Wu (zhi) extract powder (Fo-ti root) – by Plum Flower comes from the dried roots of a vining knotweed plant native to China (Polygonum multiflorum Thunb.). Literally translated as “black-haired Mr. He” (for the legendary fictional character who first used this plant to reverse the effects of aging), He shou wu has been used in China for at least two thousand years as a longevity tonic, and in modern times is commonly marketed to reverse graying hair and other signs of premature aging.
In terms of TCM, this herb replenishes jing (the essence we are born with) and tonifies the Liver Blood and Kidney organ systems. This herb can be used in a variety of ways. such as:
- as an anti-aging/longevity tonic
- to reverse premature greying of the hair
- as an anti-inflammatory
- to help with chronic fatigue
- lower back ache/soreness
