Four Substances for Women, Four Ingredient Pills, or Si Wu Wan is the base formula in Chinese Herbal Medicine for building and invigorating (Liver) blood. It is commonly used in China as a post-partum or post-menstrual tonic to help revitalize the body; it also address irregular/dysregulated menses, scanty periods, and amenorrhea. It can be used alone as a straight-forward blood tonic or it can be used to reinforce/augment other formulas when the patterns of imbalance are more complex.
Other general symptoms of blood deficiency pointing toward the use of this formula include: pale/sallow complexion, weak vocalization, dry skin or hair/alopecia, palpitations, dizziness, poor memory, fatigue, dry eyes/blurry vision, and cracked nails.
